Welcome to Monty's Place Chinchilla Rescue and Refuge, Inc.

My name is Renee - I created Monty's Place to service the needs of abused, exploited or neglected chinchillas. Monty's Place is designed to rescue chinchillas from bad situations, i.e., neglectful or lax pet shops, abandonment circumstances, abusive owner situations, etc.

Here at Monty's Place we do our best to help every chinchilla that comes through our door in the best way possible. We provide our chins with a good, safe home and medical care; our goal being rehabilitation and adoption.

You can help us here at Monty's Place! We are located on Long Island, New York. If you live in New York or the surrounding area and you know of a chinchilla in a bad situation or you HAVE a chinchilla who you just can't take care of, please notify us! We will be happy to assist in any way possible.

Like to adopt one of our rescued chins? Sure! Without rescues we can't have adoptions, so if you see a chin who's being neglected or abused, please don't turn your back. That chin could have the opportunity to lead a very happy life with the right person. Feel free to inquire as to the availability of our chins.

Monty's Place Updates

11/08/09 - Contrary to popular belief, the staff of Monty's Place hasn't fallen off the face of the earth! In all seriousness, I apologize for not updating this little "blog spot" sooner. Going forward, I intend to update this section of the website once per month. To all of you frequent visitors - if you see that I become lax on this task, feel free to email me and bust my chops! Wink

Alright, well - first thing's first. Monty's Place Chinchilla Rescue and Refuge has been working with a wonderful law firm in New York City in an effort to complete our filing requirements to meet the coveted 501(c)(3) status that we so desperately need. Well, I am happy to report that as of August 13th, 2009, Monty's Place Chinchilla Rescue and Refuge has become an officially incorporated business! Hence our new headline on our homesite, which reads: Monty's Place Chinchilla Rescue & Refuge, Inc. We are very proud of this accomplishment and look forward to becoming an official non-profit within the next six or seven months.

Regarding the website - I have made a few new modifications/additions/changes over the last day or so. Firstly, you will notice that there is a new face on our adoptions page. Buster is a very cute six-year-old white mosaic chinchilla who is looking for a forever home. Please have a gander at his picture and description on the "Available Chinchillas" page. I have also consolidated our "Successful Adoptions" page onto one page instead of two. Frequent visitors will notice that I have removed detailed descriptions regarding the situations surrounding the adoptions. I have made the decision to do this in an effort to respect the privacy of adoptive families. 

We are now proud to be offering a full boarding service for chinchillas! Boarding services are available at both our Nassau County and Suffolk County locations. If you are going away for business or pleasure, we will be happy to care for your chinchilla while you're away. Please visit our "Boarding Services" page for additional information.

As always, as we approach the holidays, we are looking for monetary donations as well as supplies and toys. If you can find it in our heart to contribute to our cause, we will be very grateful.

05/10/09 - A very happy Mother's Day to all appropriate parties on this beautiful Sunday afternoon! Thank you for stopping by Monty's Place Chinchilla Rescue today. If this is your first visit, we welcome you, and if you're a returning visitor, we welcome you back!

If it seems as though I'm in a sugary and chipper mood today, it's because I really am. Firstly, we are happy to report that the ASPCA has granted us a Waiver of Approval for incorporation as a humane organization! This means that we are one step closer to becoming an official non-profit-- a prospect that we are very excited about. Smile 

Secondly, Monty's Place will be appearing at the Dog Day Afternoon Agility Expo and Pet Fair on Sunday, May 31st, 2009. The event is being sponsored by the Suffolk Bar Association and will be held at Doggie "U" K9 Academy, 41 Saxon Avenue, Bay Shore, NY 11706. Please call 631-968-7972 or email DoggieUk9Academy@aol.com for additional information. This will be our first event in a long time, and look forward to seeing all of you there!

12/07/08 - HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!  I would like to start today's update by thanking Ginger and Brian for their VERY generous donation to Monty's Place.  We can't thank you enough for all of the supplies that you have provided us with-- we were truly overwhelmed by the magnitude of the donation and are so appreciative of what you've done for our rescue.  Smile

Next up - we're sorry to have to report this, but we've had to close the Chin Bin Shop before it even got off the ground.  Unfortunately, just like everyone else, we are having a difficult fiscal year; the monthly expense of an eBay shop is just too much at the moment.  We're sorry to disappoint anyone but we would like to encourage you to email us if you are interested in purchasing hand made hammocks or official Monty's Place sweatshirts or tee shirts. ATTENTION GOOD HEARTED PEOPLE OF THE CHINCHILLA WORLD! Monty's Place is looking for donations! Specifically we are looking for used flying saucers, chin spins, Ed wheels, or Leo Braun wheels. We are also looking for ceramic bowls, water bottles, Carefresh bedding, straw mats, Oxbow feed products and cages. If you are holding on to any of these items or if you would be interested in picking up one of these items the next time you're at the pet store and would be interested in donating, please contact us. Unfortunately, we are not non-for-profit, so you cannot write off these donations on your taxes. The best we can do is give you a huge THANK YOU and a shout out on the website.
