MONTY'S PLACE - Chinchilla Rescue & Refuge
Welcome To Monty's Place - Chinchilla Rescue and Refuge
Thanks for stopping by at Monty's Place! I'm so glad you've taken the time to check out our website!
My name is Renee - I created Monty's Place to service the needs of abused, exploited or neglected chinchillas. Monty's Place is designed to rescue chinchillas from bad situations, i.e., neglectful or lax pet shops, abandonment circumstances, abusive owner situations, etc.
Here at Monty's Place we do our best to help every chinchilla that comes through our door in the best way possible. We provide our chins with a good, safe home and medical care; our goal being rehabilitation and adoption.
You can help us here at Monty's Place! We are located on Long Island in Nassau County. If you live in the New York or surrounding area and you know of a chinchilla in a bad situation or you HAVE a chinchilla who you just can't take care of, please notify us! We will be happy to assist in any way possible.
Like to adopt one of our rescued chins? Sure! Without rescues we can't have adoptions, so if you see a chin who's being neglected or abused, please don't turn your back. That chin could have the opportunity to lead a very happy life with the right person. Feel free to inquire as to the availability of our chins.
Take your time and enjoy your stop at Monty's Place! Make sure to check back often, as we will be updating whenever possible.
Remember the Monty's Place Mantra: We can all save lives through caring and compassion!
We are sorry if this causes a great inconvenience, but our rescue is currently working with some very special needs chinchillas and will be unable to take in any more rescues (unless exceedingly emergent) until further notice. We will still be available for any questions you may have or any assistance that you may need and we still have chinchillas available for adoption. Until we are able to take in more surrenders here is a link to some surrounding rescues who may be able to help while we are unable.

Monty's Place Updates
05/10/09 - A very happy Mother's Day to all appropriate parties on this beautiful Sunday afternoon! Thank you for stopping by Monty's Place Chinchilla Rescue today. If this is your first visit, we welcome you, and if you're a returning visitor, we welcome you back!
If it seems as though I'm in a sugary and chipper mood today, it's because I really am. Firstly, we are happy to report that the ASPCA has granted us a Waiver of Approval for incorporation as a humane organization! This means that we are one step closer to becoming an official non-profit-- a prospect that we are very excited about.
Secondly, we would like to congratulate Donna and Dominica regarding their successful adoption of J.D.! We have never met a family so eager and excited to bring a chinchilla into their lives. J.D. has gone to heaven on earth as far as we are concerned. We wish the family and little J.D. years of happiness, fulfillment and love!
Third, Monty's Place will be appearing at the Dog Day Afternoon Agility Expo and Pet Fair on Sunday, May 31st, 2009. The event is being sponsored by the Suffolk Bar Association and will be held at Doggie "U" K9 Academy, 41 Saxon Avenue, Bay Shore, NY 11706. Please call 631-968-7972 or email DoggieUk9Academy@aol.com for additional information. This will be our first event in a long time, and look forward to seeing all of you there!
12/07/08 - HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE! I would like to start today's update by thanking Ginger and Brian for their VERY generous donation to Monty's Place. We can't thank you enough for all of the supplies that you have provided us with-- we were truly overwhelmed by the magnitude of the donation and are so appreciative of what you've done for our rescue.
10/07/08 - Happy fall everyone! A lot of news here to report today, so let's get right to it. Firstly, we are happy to report that we are FINALLY going through the process to become an official 501c3, non-profit organization! We have taken the first steps to file our official paperwork and (hopefully) come the new year, we will be an official non-profit rescue and sanctuary. We would like to thank everyone who has stood by us and have worked with us to attain this title-- we are so proud to have been doing this for as long as we have and look forward to doing even more, impactful projects in the future.
Secondly, we have a few new faces on the 'available chinchillas' page. Please take a few minutes to take a look at these wonderful little guys who are looking for good homes
Third, it seems to be that time of year! We are getting A LOT of relinquish requests. Currently, we are working at full-to-overflowing and do not have adequate room to take in any more rescues at the moment. As we are one of only a few functional chinchilla rescues in the tri-state area, we are doing our best to help those in need to place their animals. We are in desperate need of foster families! If you are interested in becoming an 'unofficial' member of the Monty's Place team, we would love to have you on board to help us out. Please feel free to contact us for more information about fostering and giving chinchillas in need a second chance.
Fourth, we are still working on getting the 'Chin Bin' (our online store) up and running. We thank you for your continued patience if you've been monitoring the store-front situation.
Fifth, I am hoping to make some site-wide changes in the upcoming weeks. The site is in desperate need of an overhaul and I'm working on it as best as I can via an out-dated and rather lethargic laptop. We have some plans up our sleeve, so make sure to check often for new content coming soon!
ATTENTION GOOD HEARTED PEOPLE OF THE CHINCHILLA WORLD! Monty's Place is looking for donations! Specifically we are looking for used flying saucers, chin spins, Ed wheels, or Leo Braun wheels. We are also looking for ceramic bowls, water bottles, Carefresh bedding, straw mats, Oxbow feed products and cages. If you are holding on to any of these items or if you would be interested in picking up one of these items the next time you're at the pet store and would be interested in donating, please contact us. Unfortunately, we are not non-for-profit, so you cannot write off these donations on your taxes. The best we can do is give you a huge THANK YOU and a shout out on the website.Remember, any little bit helps.
Thank you in advance from the staff here at Monty's Place!
